le_battement's Reading Room
Lifeless
by: Me
so much that i remember
from roads i've never walked
tongues i've never talked
for what it goes, and how it seems
the fruits of shattered, wasted dreams
will never show or come to light
in this or ever's wish of life
like fish and frogs jump from a pond
our simple, pleading life was spawned
to take a chance at breathing air
to look beyond, see what's there
yet in the end, we find defeat
when humans join with moss and peat
to run, and simply find retreat
to gather all and amply flock
back towards the mud and rock
to be at one with lifeless ones
and never know our many sons
drop the knives, drop the guns
we must be the lifeless ones
do it now, before it's done
make us all the lifeless ones
know the song before it's sung
now become the lifeless ones
strum a string, before it's string
take us to the lifeless ones
have your death before your fun
help yourself, the lifeless one
